For a few years I rarely had a beer at home in the evening. It may be because I tended to be the guy who could not stop at 2 beers when I was younger, it could be because of a fear of alcoholism that runs in the family, or it could be because I was concerned about fitting into my pants… Whatever the reason, when I drank it was outside of the house or when I had company. Now I also had a problem falling asleep at night. So much so that I had tried medication and melatonin to help[...]
Every year we get these blah ads from Budweiser and Miller touting their new attempts to hold on to market share and stay relevant in the new marketplace. I mean, seriously, Budweiser Black Crown? To be honest, I am not even sure what Budweiser Black Crown is, but I do know it will be a colossal failure as the demographic they are trying to reach will not drink Budweiser. They will be ordering a craft brewed IPA or bown ale way before anything that comes out of a 50,000 gallon vat… But now let our imaginations wander and think of the best[...]

If you were to ask me to pinpoint one city where a beer lover can drink to his heart’s content and still not be finished, I’d go with San Diego. With the largest number of breweries and many outstanding, nationally-recognized breweries, San Diego clearly stands out as one of the best towns when it comes to drinking beer. Here’s why San Diego is a Great Craft Beer City… 1. Largest number of breweries Unlike other cities in America that only boast of large-scale corporate breweries, San Diego boasts of the most number of micro-breweries per square mile.[...]

Over the last few years, the craft beer movement has grown in popularity all over the United States. According to research by Mintel, sales of craft beer have nearly doubled in the 2007 – 2012 period with revenues increasing from $5.7 billion in 2007 to $12 billion in 2012. The movement has certainly revolutionized the brewery and restaurant industry. Restaurants who’ve adapted to this change have noticed spikes in revenues whereas restaurant owners who’ve been stubborn to accept the craft beer movement have noticed declines. In this report, we’re going to cover the underlying reason behind this movement and how[...]

If you’re a beer lover and have been trying out different beer varieties for a while now, you may have already come across the German beer variety – Altbier. If you haven’t, we strongly recommend that you give it a try. The name Altbier means old beer. The brewing method used in making Altbier is a pre-lager brewing method that consists of using warm top-fermenting yeast. Pilsners on the other hand use a bottom-fermenting yeast method. The pre-lager brewing methods usually resulted in dark, cloudy and bitter beer that wasn’t really favorable to be drunk. That’s why many of the[...]

The average human walks 900 miles per year, and drinks 22 gallons of beer, which means the average human gets 41 MPG. Not bad… via Zane Lamprey on Facebook.

We have just moved to North Carolina and are thrilled with amazing collection of breweries that are across the state. We are planning on creating a list of breweries of each state in the United States moving forward, but my own personal desires had me create the North Carolina brewery list first. One of the joys of the craft beer movement is the opportunity to taste the small brewers interpretations of classic beers. Most brewers on this list have multiple beers that will meet your desires, and many of them have public tastings of the beers at their breweries. We[...]
If you’ve wanted to try out a new imperial stout variety for a while now, we recommend that you try the Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout. The Black Chocolate Stout from Brooklyn Brewery is a beer with an alcohol concentration of 10% by volume. It was made once exclusively for ‘Catherine The Great’ and is one of the few award winning imperial stout beers from the Brooklyn Brewery. The Black Chocolate Stout recently bagged the Bronze Medal in the 2012 World Beer Cup. The beer is brewed every year for the winter season and ages beautifully. It’s also delicious even when[...]

If you’re a beer lover, you may be already aware of the term IPA or the India Pale Ale. An India Pale Ale is a brew that has been brewed using pale malt. The pale color and a high concentration of hops is what makes the India Pale Ale stand out. Even though the traditional pale ale consisted of mainly using pale malt, brewers have now begun to use coke-fired malt to ensure even paler results. Over the last couple of years, a lot of variations have been produced because of the Craft Beer Movement in America. One of the[...]
